Rockin’ The Loom

Rockin’ Robin’s adventures in crafting

About Robin

I am a 26 year old, SAHM to two small children.  Sir Thade is 3 years old and Lady Tru will turn 2 in October.  I have been with my husband for 6 years, married for 4 1/2 years.  We live way out in the country in NE Mississippi.
I decided that I wanted to learn to knit in August of 2007 and bought my first supplies in September 2007.  Along with my size 8 knitting needles, yarn needles, and a skein of Red Heart Super Saver I snatched up a set of Knifty Knitter Looms.  My thinking was that I could teach myself to needle knit a scarf and then make a matching hat for it when I taught myself how to knit on the looms.  Well, the looms became my obsession.  No, they aren’t necessarily easier…but they just seem like more fun sometimes.  :D   I didn’t give up needle knitting though.  In fact, I am still teaching myself how to needle knit and had begun crocheting in January 2008.  As of January, I became a loom pattern designer and shortly after, a teacher!  I love teaching others how to loom or how to follow a pattern.  Since then, I have designed more patterns and made tutorials to help others understand how to do different techniques on both the Knifty Knitter Loom and the Kiss Looms, which are a slightly different experience.  I love all of my looms.  I own Knifty Knitters, DecorAccents Looms, CinDWood Crafts looms…but my favorites are my Kiss Looms!
I recently ordered a drop spindle and some roving to teach myself how to spin my own yarn.  And I am determined to teach myself how to tat as well.  Obsessed?  ABSOLUTELY!  Next year, I will be begging for a spinning wheel and then the year after it will be sheep, alpacas, or rabbits!  My husband is gonna hate me.  LOL!
So, what is my ultimate goal in life?
I know that some people are just happy playing with yarn every once in a while and they don’t have a single problem following someone else’s patterns.  My problems are that I have to touch yarn all the time if my fingers aren’t on a keyboard (or I am not doing the dreaded cleaning!) AND that I can’t follow someone else’s pattern to save my life.  It isn’t that I have any problems reading a pattern.  It is that I have a problem with not altering it or improving on it in some way.  It is the same problem I suffer with when following a recipe.  LOL!
When I am not totally engrossed in designing a pattern, looming up a friend’s pattern, or making tutorials, you can find me on some of the Yahoo Groups for the Kiss Looms (co-moderator), Loom Class (co-moderator and teacher/mentor), Loomer’s Break Room (where I jabber a LOT!), DA Looms, Gettin’ It Pegged (run by one of my best friends!  She teaches classes on her group.), and the Knifty Knitter Looms group.
I am also a fluttering FlyBaby, desperately trying to find that perfect balance between yarny stuff and keeping the CHAOS in my house at bay.  :D
Welcome….to….MY….life!

    Robin,
I am/ was a good friend of Erin’s. Still hard to talk about her in past tense. I read your comment in the newspaper. I had wanted some way to contact you and tell you that her mom had died, but I see you did find that out. I just accidentally found this on you when I was googling her name to find her obituary. Email me if you want to know anything about her.
